Baby Shower Brew

Alright, so home brewed beer has taken Clovis by storm and the Clovis guys buy their ingredients from a magical place called Austin Home Brew so it just makes since that we picked up a batch's worth on the way out of town.  And this is how the BS Cream Ale was born!  Baby Shower Cream Ale, or Barton Springs Cream Ale, or just plain old BS Cream Ale was created the same day as our baby shower thanks to the help of Stevie, Bobby and Joel (and Nolan) and especially thanks to Joel and Heather for the use of their garage.

So after several hours of boiling, steeping and cold crashing, we now have 5 gallons of wort (maybe?) busy fermenting in a 5 gallon glass jug at Steve's house awaiting the bottling in about 5 weeks. At that time we shall properly name the brew, or at least properly reveal the words behind the lettters B.S....  Can't wait to try it!

First relaxing weekend at our new home

Well, we finally had a weekend to hang out and enjoy our new place.  Our goal was to have everything clean and put away by Friday, and we kind of did.  At least we were satisfied enough to walk across the street with Preston and attempt to relax on the Uncle Billy's patio.  (Did I mention it was 74 degrees here on Friday?)  But Preston was super hyper and wouldn't quit jumping at the waiter every time he walked by, so I decided to run him back up the hill to the condo.  This turned out to be a good thing because I ran into our super fun neighbor Teresa and her really good dog Buddy and told them Lacee was still down there waiting for me.  When I got back, Teresa had joined the party and the three of us had a blast visiting and sampling Uncle Billy microbrews.  We even added a 4th member when Teresa texted another friend who came down and joined us.  It was a very "Austiny" kind of night on the patio under white strung lights and great big oak trees with a a fun-loving crowd who all took the time to pet and greet the mild-mannered Nebraska transplant Buddy.  We can only hope that Preston can acclomate so well.  It was a fun time and was really great to be able to walk home.  Although we may have made a pit stop at P. Terry's burger stand for cheap burgers and fries on the way back...

Saturday was an equally beautiful day and I started it off with a morning jog around Town Lake (aka Ladybird Lake).  We have run or walked around the lake a couple times now and I keep mapping different routes for distances.  This time I jumped on the trail by Barton Springs and headed West across the Mopac Bridge back down and over the 1st St bridge and finished up back at Barton Springs.  This was approx 4.25 miles.  I saw a lot of Dad's with their BOB three-wheeled strollers and was insanely jealous.  Our baby is going to be so Austin!  I can't wait!

After errands and breast-feeding class we topped off the evening with dinner at Red's Porch on South Lamar with Ryan and Katelyn and new friend Teresa.  Red's was a great choice.  Complete with Washers and Shuffle Board, oh and a huge upstairs Porch!  There seems to be no end in amazing places to eat and hang out in this town and this was the farthest out that we've ventured.  We were probably 1 1/2 miles South of the house.  Good times, good weekend!  Now off to Ikea.

Happy New Year!

Greetings from the car ride home!  We had a great week in Clovis with all of our family and friends. We made out with some really great gifts, especially lots of new baby clothes and toys.  As most of you know, we moved to Austin on December 1st, and up until now we have spent all of our time unpacking...getting settled...starting new jobs... so now we are very excited to start setting up the baby's nursery.  We are leasing a super cute townhouse in Austin near Zilker Park, perfect for anyone that wants to come visit!

This is what it looks like when you move in to a townhouse less than half the size of your old house...thanks for the organizational skills, mom!
